Artist Statement by Lila Moore

My Ka is a collection of images of ancient doubles who once left their bodies and have remained body-less. They wander through urban and deserted locations, eternally seeking an identity and a body to claim as their own.

My Ka was born long ago and first manifested in the artist’s performed photography and multimedia work in her early twenties. She slumbered in slides and forgotten files, awaiting the immortal summons of performance. Inspired by the theme of the double and by Maya Deren’s poem Death by Amnesia (1942), My Ka is grounded in the artist’s concept of Performed Photography, which has always been the vessel of her becoming—where body and camera vision entwine in acts of presence and apparition.

Now she rises again, performing her KA photographic magick through digital film and NAI—AI-assisted screen choreography that discloses the invisible realms of the eternal souls who walk among us, stirring memories and seeking their forgotten names and futures.

MY KA was born long ago and first manifested in my performed photography and multimedia work in my early twenties. She slumbered in slides and forgotten files, awaiting the immortal summons of performance. Now she rises again, performing her KA photographic magick  through digital art+ai film, resurrected by technoetic technologies.

MY KA is inspired by the theme of the double and Maya Deren’s poem Death by Amnesia (1942). Yet she emerges from the earliest strata of my work—footage, concepts, performances and visions that remained unfinished, veiled by the adversities and ordeals that haunt the path of artists.

The concept of Performed Photography was articulated in my PhD thesis (2001). Performed Photography was always the vessel of her becoming, where body and camera entwine in acts of presence and apparition. Though conceived in the past, these ideas are both neoteric and timeless, reflecting the KA’s eternal return.

I wrote about MY KA in my 2024 peer-reviewed article Technoetic Magick: Explorations of the Uncanny Double as a Noetic and Magickal System through the Complementary Lenses of AI Image-Generation and AR, published by BCS Learning and Development Ltd. in the Proceedings of EVA London 2024

Artist Statement by Lila Moore

Dreamday Express reimagines the iconic moment in cinema history when the Lumière brothers’ train arrived at La Ciotat Station in 1896. From within that early cinematic scene, one woman steps forward—becoming the protagonist of a dream-journey that merges historical reality with the shimmering depths of the unconscious.

Inspired by Sigmund Freud’s 1919 essay “The Uncanny,” the film follows her as the familiar rhythms of the railway shift into a realm where desire, memory, trauma, and fantasy intertwine. Train carriages, platforms, waltzing couples, and passing landscapes dissolve into fluid architectures of light that echo nineteenth-century Impressionist paintings.

The immersive visual patterns were generated by an AI model trained on the colours, structures, and atmospheres of vintage trains and stations. Through choreographic aesthetics, these AI-crafted textures form the inner landscape of the Dreamday Express—a passage into the dreamlife of a woman suspended between eras.

Freud's Uncanny Doubles Collection and Immersive Installation

The concept behind Freud's Uncanny Doubles Collection and immersive installation is explored in Lila Moore’s article, Technoetic Magick: Explorations of the Uncanny Double as a Noetic and Magickal System through the Complementary Lenses of AI Image-Generation and AR. This paper was first presented at EVA London in July 2024.

The article is available via [Science Open – link].

The collection is currently being further developed using emerging technologies, expanding its immersive and technoetic dimensions.

Artist Statement by Lila Moore

Moina Mathers — Spirit of Water envisions the magical art and ritual of Moina Mathers, animating her scrying in the spirit vision of the Water Universe described in Tattwa Visions, the Golden Dawn Flying Scroll. In the Water Universe, Moina Mathers discovered the Kabbalistic powers, angels, and entities that operate divine Creation and physical life.

Drawing on academic and esoteric sources, the artist trained AI models to echo Mathers’ aesthetic and mystical sensibility and meticulously shaped the results into a delicate yet vital flow of visionary forms. The work pays homage to Moina Mathers’ creative-magical legacy, giving fluid and ethereal presence to the mystical formulations she longed to manifest. It is an immersive display of the transcendent colours and shapes that carry the moisture of life to humans.

Moina Bergson Mathers (1865–1928), the first female initiate of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, was a pioneering artist, ritualist, and teacher who shaped the order’s magical practices. Through her spirit drawings, ceremonial artefacts, and the Rites of Isis (1899), she championed women’s spiritual authority and their capacity to realise ideas and embody the physical and divine.

Artist Statement

Deprived by war and persecution, a young woman artist wanders in her ruined world. Isolated, she descends into the depths of the Earth where a mysterious genie guides her to a temple in a cave. There she is overcome by the powers of Creation and glimpses through the eye of the genie the shadows of the war and its prisoners on the walls of the cave. Emerging from the cave into the light of a beautiful day, the genie’s message echoes in the air — a whisper drawn from Blake’s vision:
For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through the narrow chinks of his cavern. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to us as it is — Infinite.

The piece emerges from the artist’s Performed Photography, merging with cave images stirred into life and woven through AI models, forming a luminous dance shaped by the aesthetic pulse of screen choreography.
